HANDCRAFTED QUALITY

For Designer Janet Kinkade, there has always been an appeal to Old World craftsmanship – a time when items were made by hand, by artisans who took pride in creating something beautiful that would last. She has applied that appreciation for timeless quality to her jewelry designs.
  • Each and every JK Signature Charm is handcrafted in the JK studios in Alpine, Utah.
  • The charms are each framed by hand in authentic pewter (lead-free, of course).
  • The beveled glass is hand-cut.
  • The artistic designs are printed one-by-one on artist’s canvas – not paper – which sets Jewel Kade apart from other brands.
  • The designs are embellished by hand with dazzling touches like Swarovski crystals and German Glass Glitter.
  • The attachment rings, jump rings and drops are then added by hand.
  • Finally, each charm is individually inspected and polished before it’s deemed JK-worthy and sent to you.
  • With the handcrafted process behind JK charms, the subtle variations mean no two charms are exactly alike, which means you are wearing a truly unique, inspired piece of artistry.

FINE MATERIALS

German Glass Glitter
JK’s German Glass Glitter comes from a small family-run company in the heart of Germany that boasts a long genealogy line of Bavarian glass workers. Unlike industrial glass and glitter, each batch of German Glass Glitter is crafted by hand through a seven-step process that starts with coating a thin substrate of glass with a coat of pure silver. After firing the glass at high temperatures, color coatings are added, followed by additional firings and coats of silver. This process is what gives the glitter both the exceptional sparkle and shine, as well as its tendency to tarnish to a rich vintage look over time.

Swarovski Crystals
Several Jewel Kade charms feature Swarovski (swor-off-skee) crystals, which are known around the world for their exquisite quality. In 1892 glassmaker Daniel Swarovski revolutionized the crystal cutting and polishing process, and for over 120 years Swarovski has continued to lead the world in the quality, colors and shapes of crystal.

CARING FOR YOUR JK

JK Signature Charms
  • Caring for your JK Signature Charms is relatively easy—keep them dry and clean.
  • The pewter we use does include silver, which can tarnish over time. Should your charms tarnish, simply buff them using a soft, jewelry cleaning cloth.
  • Charms exposed to humidity, perfumes, and hair spray may tarnish more quickly.
  • Pewter can be pitted or stained from certain acidic foods such as citrus juices.
  • Keep your charms away from high heat sources. The pewter will melt at only 450 degrees.
  • Store your charms in acid-free tissue paper, in a soft cloth, or an air-tight plastic bag to prevent scratches, nicks, and exposure to the elements.

JK Necklaces and Bracelets
  • The simplest way to keep your chains looking the best is to keep them away from all perfumes, lotions, hair products, and especially water. Make it the last thing you put on before you leave the house and your JK necklaces will stay beautiful longer.
  • When storing your jewelry, keep it as protected as possible, such as in an air-tight plastic bag. Exposure to air and humidity quicken tarnishing.
  • The same guidelines apply to JK bracelets, which by nature endure a great deal of wear and tear when worn. Be aware that while Jewel Kade has taken precautions by double-plating bracelets, the plating may eventually wear off. Slow that process down by avoiding contact with water or damaging products, and remove your bracelets before you sleep.
  • If needed, wipe chains with a soft cloth to clean. Avoid using abrasive cloths or cleaning products or polishing excessively, as these can remove the plating.
  • A chemically treated jewelry cloth makes the job a lot easier and faster. However, be careful! The treated cloths leave a little bit of a protective anti-tarnish coating on the piece to keep it shiny longer. This has a tendency to come off on white clothing. If you use one of these cloths, make sure and wipe off the excess with a glass cleaning wipe. And make sure your necklaces are completely dry before you put them away.
  • Glass pearls are fragile, so handle with care.
  • Wash your Crepe Ribbons as you would any delicate fabric.
